Pool Resurfacing Cairns
Tell us about the pool and what is wrong with its surface, and one local provider takes the enquiry, inspects the pool and quotes in writing. QBCC's class page for “Swimming pool construction, installation and maintenance” lists “Maintenance and general repair of concrete swimming pools and spas.”, and QBCC says a licence is needed for building work “valued over $3,300”. Neither QBCC page uses the word resurfacing, so ask the provider which class the quote is under and to show it. Both pages were last reviewed by QBCC in 2021.

Before you get a quote
Four things to know first
- Neither QBCC page says resurfacing QBCC's class page for swimming pool work lists “Maintenance and general repair of concrete swimming pools and spas.” The word resurfacing is on neither QBCC page we read, so ask the provider which class the quote is under.
- The fence stays compliant during the work QBCC says that if sections of the fence come out during a repair or replacement, a temporary fence must be installed for the duration.
- Pool water cannot go to the street Backwash from swimming pools is a prescribed water contaminant in Queensland, and depositing it in waters, a roadside gutter or stormwater drainage is an offence.
- The council no longer inspects pools Cairns Regional Council says it no longer has Licensed Pool Safety Inspectors, so an owner who needs a pool safety certificate contacts an inspector to arrange the inspection.
Three steps
From enquiry to quote
- Tell us about the pool Concrete or fibreglass, and what is wrong with the surface or what you want done.
- It is passed on Your enquiry goes to one independent local provider covering Cairns. The provider pays for the introduction; you never do.
- A provider inspects and quotes The provider looks at the pool and prices the work in writing. The price is theirs to set.
Pool Resurfacing across Cairns
Cairns Regional Council says building certification is required for swimming pools and associated fencing, and that it no longer has Licensed Pool Safety Inspectors: an owner who needs a pool safety certificate contacts an inspector to arrange the inspection. The Bureau of Meteorology's Cairns Aero table puts mean rainfall at 404.8 mm in January and 33.2 mm in July, which the questions page sets out month by month. Everything the sources say about the rules is in the rules check, and the rain record article covers the water.
